3 March 2006 - Green label added to the top of the Main Page to clarify
configuration selection
A green label has been added to make it clear what ads are currently selected -
Sales, Wanted and Regions. It makes the site easier to use. Thanks to my good
friend Mohammad for the suggestion!
22 November 2005 - Safety Improvements, contact
details now only available to Logged-In users
We have received feedback from several users who were concerned about respondants to their ads.
Notably the "Nigeria 419 Scam". It is unfortunate that a small element of
web users are intent upon using the world-wide, anonymous, nature of the web to
run scams. Our Terms and Conditions have always prohibited illegal usage,
however we now feel that more protection is required. Email addresses are only
released to website users who are logged in, this makes it less attractive to
scammers. It also gives us the chance to eliminate undesirable users.
Our website is regularly monitored to ensure that abuse is removed.
Our approach is simply to provide the safest method of advertising on the internet! - There is
no safer way to advertise online. We do not rely on encryption to keep personal
details safe - we don't need any personal details so we don't ask for any. The
safest way to keep a secret is not to tell anybody!
17 February 2005 - Data Protection
A new page has been added to explain how the Cumbrian Mart Website complies with
the Data Protection Act 2000.
The "Lotto" and "Fox Hunting" promotions have been removed.
30 November 2004 - Online
Foxhunting
Foxes roam the pages of the Cumbrian Mart, we have now declared the Online Fox
Hunting season open. £10 to be won for each Fox caught.
11 August 2004 - Free LOTTO
As if free advertising throughout Cumbria, and free access to bargains right
here, are not enough - we have now introduced our Free LOTTO. You can now have
upto six chances to win £1000 every week.
12 May 2004 - Phone only advertising available to
non trade users
We have added a new option for non-trade advertisers - not to
disclose an email address for contact.
Spam (Junk Email) is a constant nuisance on the Internet and the
Cumbrian Mart Website has been designed to be unattractive to spammers. We
recommend that all Internet users should have Anti-Virus Software, Firewall
Software and Spam Filtering Software before accessing the Internet. Spam
can be offensive and some people prefer not to risk getting any. By concealing
your email address you will reduce the risk of spam, but you will also reduce
the opportunities for genuine buyers to contact you.
08 March 2004 - Please be aware of Web Scams
Unfortunately the Internet has many unscrupulous people attempting to
steal money from unsuspecting people. It has been reported to us that there
have been some cases of enquiries to ads on the Cumbrian Mart from abroad,
enquiring about sending the item abroad. Please be aware that this is a Scam,
do not reply to the enquiry. Feel free to forward any suspicious enquiries to
us.
08 March 2004 - Change of Info Pages Layout
We have re-arranged our information pages. We have updated our terms
and conditions. They are now more detailed. Please read them - they are there
for your protection as well as ours.
27 November 2003 - Added the facility to Email a friend
We recognise that for this Website to grow, the main factor is that
people tell their friends about it and the word spreads. So, we have added the
facility to help you email your friends. Only you can email your friends,
but we have made it as easy as we can for you.
14 September 2003 - Added Holidays and Jobs Sections,
and Main Page Updated
There are now two new Categories - Holidays and Jobs. The Main Page
User Interface has been improved, with a new graphical interface for selecting
user preferences.
12 August 2003 - Speeded up the download speed of the home
page
We have been working on the algorithm that runs when the main page
loads up. There is a lot of information on the main page which takes time
to get. We have been working on making it more efficient. Regular users
should notice an improvement in performance.
We have also made some changes to the graphics.
25 June 2003 - "Ad Counts" now optional
Showing the number of Ads in every catagory in the Drop Down Boxes has now been made
optional - we feel that it is useful to know how many ads are there, but it
takes time to work out the numbers every time the page is loaded - some users
may prefer to speed up the page load by not including these numbers.
20 June 2003 - User interface replaced
We have completely replaced the user interface to make it easier for you to find the
Ads you are looking for. We have removed one page so that you now go straight
from the Main page to the list you are interested in. The number of Ads
you will find in each section is displayed on the Main page - in brackets.
This is so you can see how many there are before you go there - saving you
time. The Main Page does a lot more work now, it takes a little longer to
load - we hope you find it worth it!
As a result of feedback received (thankyou) we have added the region to the
Ad list - so if you choose to view Ads from many regions - you can see where it
is.
27 May 2003 - Search facility added
The Browsing facility has been enhanced to include an optional Simple Search
facility. You now have the option to enter a word, or part of a word when you
make your selection. It works by including only Ads that contain your text
in the Description or in the Details. It's a great way of cutting out
unwanted items when you are looking for something specific.
3 May 2003 - Professional Service categories added
The Professional Service section categories have been improved to include a wide
range of useful categories.
1 May 2003 - "View all my ads"
When you have entered your password and you gain access to place an advertisement -
there is a new link at the top of the screen. The "View all my ads" link takes
you to a new page. You can now delete any of your advertisements. You can also
"Refresh" your advertisements.
You may have noticed that old advertisements get driven to the bottom of the page -
we know you want yours to be near the top. We don't want you to spend your time
re-typing your adverts - just click to Refresh them, it deletes your old advert
and creates an identical new one.
We don't want to have redundant or repeat advertisements for your buyers to
trawl through - we want it up-to-date with real offers.
